Fennel is the 'smooth' bitch we kept from Bliss' first litter. Perhaps interesting to first explain why a smooth coat, the smooth or short-haired coat, is so important for our Shilohs.
When we talk about the short-haired coat in our Shilohs, many shake their heads and claim they only want plush, long-haired. Fair is fair, I myself had that opinion too, but I want to take a moment to talk about how incredibly important a shorthaired coat is for our Shilohs. Shorthair coat genetics give our Shilohs that amazing double undercoat. This may not be so important for when you live in a warm country, but in countries with cold winters, this is a very important trait that will benefit your dog. If there is not a short-haired Shiloh somewhere within about 3 generations in a Shiloh's pedigree, the undercoat will become thinner and less dense. If you don't have a shorthaired Shiloh for too many generations, there will be virtually no undercoat. In short, whether we like them or not, they play a very important role in the coat of our Shilohs.
Fennel is a very happy energetic dog. Unlike her mother, she thinks everyone is sweet and nice and she always shows it clearly. She is very smart and learns very quickly, so unfortunately sometimes she learns things we would rather she didn't, but that is part of the game. She is athletic and fast, her mother no longer keeps up with her. She loves playing with the ball and likes to chase birds. Fortunately, she has become close friends with our two cats and does not chase them. When walking alone, Fennel is an exemplary dog, but when her mother Bliss walks with her, she regularly tries to encourage her to chase a bird together or sometimes a car driving on the country road in the distance. You can see her looking back at Bliss each time, like; shall we.........????? And hop, there they go. Yes, she regularly makes us laugh and we have never been angry with her, she is far too sweet for that.
We hope to do a litter with her in the future, but she will first have to pass all the health tests and be at least 2.5 years old.
